The share of software in the vehicle is constantly increasing. The role played by the runtime behavior of the software — the timing — is growing disproportionately. There are several reasons for this: an ever larger part of the software is safety-relevant, the systems themselves are becoming more and more complex and, last but not least, the use of multi-core is usually much more difficult than expected.
No automotive ECU project today can afford to ignore the issue of timing. The costs of analyzing and solving timing problems, especially during a late project phase, are simply too high. In addition, safety standards such as ISO 26262 require certain activities regarding timing analysis and the verification of embedded software timing.
This book provides the basics to develop software with correct timing or to solve acute timing problems. It looks at the different analysis methods, addresses all phases of the development and substantiates the theory with practical examples and concrete tips for the developer's everyday life.
Although most of the practical examples come from the automotive sector, almost the entire content of the book is directly transferable to other domains.
